Why Am I Running?

Right now– more than ever, we need bold, courageous voices speaking up for everyday Mainers in the Legislature. The saying goes that if we don't have seats at the table, we should bring our own chairs. Well, the problem is that we have seats, they're just being taken by the privileged. But they've had their turn. Their reservation is no longer valid. I promise to fight like hell to make room at that table for my friends and neighbors in House District 120. We can no longer let those who can afford everything make policies for the rest of us who can increasingly afford less and less. Who gets healthcare and who doesn’t should not be decided by those who put profits over patients. Housing is a human right, not a privilege. The intolerant must never be allowed to decide what is best for our diverse communities. And we certainly cannot have big business policing the labor laws they can't seem to follow themselves. I care deeply about our community– our people, our unique neighborhoods and our small businesses. And I will never back down, never stop fighting until our needs are met. I look forward to meeting you as I’m out knocking on doors in your neighborhood and hope to earn your vote on June 9th.

My Top Legislative Priorities::

  • Affordable Housing

  • Affordable Healthcare

  • Affordable Child Care/Elder Care

  • The Safety of Our Diverse Communities

Jason is a trusted political ally who shares my values

“So as I reach the end of my time in elected office, I do so knowing that the residents of District 120 will be in good hands. I am extremely excited to announce that my good friend, a trusted Democratic political ally, a neighbor who shares my values and will continue to fight for us in Augusta—Jason Shedlock has agreed to step up and run for my seat. No stranger to solidarity himself, Jason has long been a powerful and impactful voice for the working class, the marginalized, and those often left behind. I hope you will join me in supporting him in the primary this June so we can send Jason to Augusta to continue our fight.”

• State Representative Deqa Dhalac,
House District 120, South Portland

Jason is a champion of Maine workers

"Jason Shedlock has long been a champion of Maine workers and anyone who has been unfairly treated because of where they came from, how they look or who they love. In the same way, I know he will be a tireless advocate for all the people of South Portland when he gets to Augusta. I can't wait to serve beside him in the Maine House of Representatives."

• State Representative Matthew Beck,
House District 121, South Portland

Jason is authentic, intelligent, creative and effective

"Jason and I watched each other's kids grow up together, and I know him as a kind, loving father and a good neighbor. I also know Jason as a force to be reckoned with as an advocate for working families. He is authentic, fearless, intelligent, creative and most importantly, effective. I'm sure glad to have him on our side, and I'm proud to call him my friend and my choice to represent us in Augusta."

“When our fearless state representative Deqa Dhalac asked me to carry the torch for us in Augusta, I told her that while my feet are bigger than hers, her shoes are far bigger than mine. I am honored and humbled by Deqa’s request and I am excited to partner with her and our community to follow her example of bold, thoughtful, and impactful leadership for South Portland. So, if the voters of District 120 send me to the State House, I pledge to make something perfectly clear on day one: the only special interests that matter to me are yours. No doubt we have work to do. But, together, there’s nothing we cannot handle.”
